Hello and good morning, readers!

First, a note on the editorial schedule for this past week:  posts run Monday, Wednesday, Friday (instead of the usual Monday, Thursday.) Yes, you guessed it…we are going for guest post #6-in-a-row on Friday!

Today’s post comes to you via Firepole Marketing (“the definitive marketing program for small businesses, entrepreneurs, and non-marketers”.) Disclosure:  this is one of my favorite posts I’ve ever written. Don’t be deceived by the word marketing…this post offers an intimate look at my writing life.

Today’s Post: Read At Your Own Risk: 4 Devastating Steps To Your Most Compelling Content

I’m happily surprised and honored to be posting at Firepole. I ‘met’ writer Danny Iny when I commented on his great guest post at ThinkTraffic. He replied, and visited A Wish Come Clear as well. That night, I received an email from him inviting me to guest post at Firepole…and I just so happened to have this post in my back pocket. (All right, I had this post ready to go for Copyblogger– I was dreaming big!– but they oh-so-politely informed me that they oh-so-can’t accept unsolicited posts.)

I pictured myself handing this post over to Danny with a gleam in my eye, like Fran from Strictly Ballroom. In case you’ve never seen this gem, here’s the scene. Fran, our heroine, is an ugly-duckling-dancer who, outrageously, believes that she’s meant to dance in the Pan-Pacific Grand Prix with a gorgeous amateur dance star, Scott. He’s highly dubious, but she convinces him to give her a try-out. As they dance, she breaks out a fantastic, original dance move…and he loves original dance moves.

When Scott asks, incredulously, “What was that?” she replies, with a perfect admixture of modesty and pride, “It’s a…step I’ve been working on at home.”

Major points if you have seen Strictly Ballroom and are picturing this scene right now.

Anyway. This is a…post I’ve been working on at home. 😉

Caroline, your new post is wonderful. Thank you for challenging us to look into the stories of our lives that are painful and hard to tell…you are absolutely right that those stories are the ones that should be told, and that they are the ones that help us connect as human beings and remember that we are not alone in our beautiful struggles.

Thank you for your wisdom, and for sharing the stories you almost didn’t want to share. I, for one, am so very grateful for your beautiful soul that comes through in everything you do choose to share.

    Love, Ali

Another reminder when I’m in doubt. I wondered before I wrote and still after, how much is too much info. Write from the heart is the best place. That way, your true to self and readers. Great post spoken from experience. Thank You
